Hay on Wye
Cosy Under Canvas is just 5 miles from Hay on Wye, and Hay on Wye is a small Welsh market town with a difference.....
It’s a town of books, the brainchild of Richard Booth, the self declared ‘King of Hay’ back in the late 70’s. At the last count there were 24 of them to browse selling new, second hand and specialist books on any subject that springs to mind.
It’s home to the largest literacy festival in the UK when authors, poets, environmentalists, comedians, scientists and musicians come together to inspire and entertain the tens of thousands of people that descend on the town. There are exciting events for children to meet their favourite authors or join creative workshops.
Hay on Wye is host to an array of vintage, fashion, home and map shops plus an abundance of cafe’s (including our very own 'Cosy Cafe', restaurants, pubs and even a small arts centre and music venue.
The Brecon Beacons National Park is one of only five dark sky reserves in the world, where the sky is dark and the stars shine bright. There are a wide variety of walks, bridleways and cycle routes within the park all easily accessible from Cosy Under Canvas, with guided routes available for the less confident.
Climb a mountain, walk under a waterfall, stroll through a forest, visit a world Heritage site or a Roman Hill fort, there is plenty to see and do. Have a look at our Explore pages; Stay Local, Stray Away and For More Adventure for some inspiration.
