Cook on the open fire or knock yourself something up in one of the fully kitted kitchens. Each is equipped with traditional enamel crockery, pots, pans, cutlery and cooking utensils, a cool box and ice packs and a storage box for dried food. We have a freezer available for guests use and you can replace your ice packs from here when you need to.
There are gas stoves in both kitchens and a Rayburn in the woodland kitchen. As our site is off grid there is no conventional oven and the Rayburn oven isn’t suitable for pizzas or oven baked ready meals. It is fabulous for slow cooking though and a pot of stew can be popped in early morning and be ready for supper that night.
No need to bring tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt or pepper, it’s all here and a pot of fresh herbs is also planted up next to each kitchen, so help yourselves to parsley, mint, thyme or sage. Let us know if you need any milk.
Fresh spring water comes from the taps in the kitchen for washing up and cooking. Filtered water is provided for drinking.
We keep our impact on the environment to a minimum. Our toilets are private, there's one for each dome and they are composting tree bogs. They are planted with willow around the edge and this feeds from the nutrients in the urine leaving the other waste matter to break down into compost.
As our site is off grid the showers in the woods are wood fueled with a lovely canopy view of the trees above. They are steaming hot with plenty of room inside for changing. There is also a new shower block a short walk away with the water heated by our biomass boiler.
There is no electricity in the woods. Guests are provided with two bright LED rechargeable lanterns and there are charging points in the shower block for these. We recommend that guests bring their own lanterns and torches too. Head torches are always useful for evening cooking or night time trips to the loo!
There are facilities for hair drying and straightening, and for charging phones, laptops etc. in the shower block away from the woods.
Mobile signal and WiFi
There is no mobile phone signal in or around the site. We prefer it that way and hope you will embrace the sounds of nature and of people having fun. It really is a digital detox!
WiFi is available from the house so please ask if you would like to briefly connect.
Indoor and outdoor space
Each dome has it's own outdoor up-cycled stove plus a private fire pit with benches and logs around for seating. There's plenty of undercover space for everyone if you do need to shelter, otherwise park yourself on one of the picnic blankets in the shade of the trees.
Check out our cosy little space for big ideas with plenty of room to sit and eat or to get creative. Help yourselves to the crafty bits and bobs, borrow the board games or burrow into a good book - there's information about the local area, books by local authors and maps to borrow.
New for 2017 is the Cosy Lounge, a stylish space with comfy chairs and low tables for chilling out and relaxing. Plus beanbags, fluffy sheepskins, a wood stove and a tea/coffee bar inside plus a small veranda overlooking the communal fire pit outside. Perfect for socialising with the other guests or sheltering in the warmth with a warm drink if the Welsh weather forces it.
